French-Moroccan academic, Professor Youssef Chiheb, was interviewed on France 24 TV on February 12, 2020. He said that “Israel is not an enemy of Morocco” and that the greater threats to the Arabs come from Iran, the Shiite movement, the proliferation of WMD’s and terrorism in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Sahel region. Professor Chiheb added that Israel also provided some intelligence services [to Morocco] in the past. He stated: “The Arab world has been brainwashed with anti-Zionist and anti-Israel rhetoric.” He said that in the “old days” the Palestinian cause was the number one cause of the Arabs, but the times have changed. He added that Arab regimes have only used the Palestinian cause for “domestic purposes” and have not offered the Palestinians any solutions. Professor Chiheb elaborated that Jerusalem and Palestine were lost when PLO leader Yasser Arafat was about to sign peace accords with former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak under the auspices of U.S. President Bill Clinton, but Arafat was deterred by Arab countries who had accused him of treason.
