My good friends Leo Porto and Felipe Rocha asked me to animate the opening title sequence and name titles for their conference “Bonde” focused on Brazilian design. The name “Bonde” comes from the trains that run along the streets of Rio and other cities in Brazil, taking you one place to the next. The design and animation of each scene is meant to represent this idea through type and motion.
-
Bonde was the first Brazilian design conference in NY and hosted 9 talks from some of the most exciting names in Brazilian design including Marina Willer (Partner at Pentagram; designer behind the Tate Modern identity and filmmaker showing at Cannes), Jonathas de Andrade (Artist exhibiting at the MoMA, Guggenheim and New Museum) and Rimon Guimarães (one of the biggest names in street art who recently painted murals in Syrian refugee camps), as well as art installations and pop-up shop featuring selected independent publications from Brazil.
Through Bonde, we hope to raise awareness of Brazil's many contributions to design, while presenting a more complete perspective on what Brazilian design could be. The conference sold-out and was a huge success, with over 400 people participating. Bonde was featured in important media channels, including the One Club, Working not Working, Design Week, Design Observer, Site Inspire and DESK of Tobias van Schneider.
