For International Women's Day (IWD), Al Nahda Philanthropic Society for Women campaign sparked conversation around the active roles of both women and men in society and the workplace in Saudi Arabia (KSA)--in order to change perception and trigger action.
It is important to note the sensitivity of the topic of “gender parity/equality” in Saudi Arabia. Al-Nahda remains hopeful as the country is currently working towards implementing Vision 2030, an ambitious series of economic and social reforms to drive progress to the nation-- which will positively impact the status of women.
For IWD, Al-Nahda questioned stereotypes affecting both genders and the causes hindering women from reaching their full potential whether at home, in the workforce or in society. Al-Nahda stressed how low penetration of women in the workforce negatively impacts the economy in the country, and consequently causes a bigger financial burden on their male counterpart. Al-Nahda highlighted the positive impact a balanced participation could have instead.
