The next movement pair is horizontal abduction and horizontal adduction. Horizontal abduction is when abduction is done in the horizontal plane. For example with the shoulder joint, my shoulder is first lifted to shoulder height such that it becomes parallel to the horizontal plane. Now, if you can recall, abduction means to bring a body segment away from the midline of the body. So during horizontal abduction, i am simply doing the same, except that my arm moves in a motion that is parallel to the horizontal plane. And for horizontal adduction, it is simply the opposite. The arm stays parallel to the horizontal plane, while moving closer to the midline of the body.
