Nymburk is a beautiful town in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic, located 40 km east of Prague on the Elbe River.

The town was founded by Czech king Přemysl Otakar II about the year 1275 and for the whole middle ages it belonged among the most influential towns in the country, being endowed with many privileges.

Present Nymburk is a modern administrative town, the centre of the middle Elbe riverside. It is the town of culture, green, sports and numerous historical sights, which is worth your visit: St.Giles´s Church from the period 1280-1380, rare example of Gothic brick architecture; medieval walls which present typical view of the town in the location Na Přístavě; two moats – Malé a Velké Valy (Small and Big Ramparts) – inseparable part of the fortification, defining rarely preserved mediaeval lay-out of the town, the historical core of which was declared a town conservation area; further it is the Renaissance style Town Hall in the Přemyslovců Square and some historical buildings; a part of Renaissance brewery manufacturing facilities from the end of the 16th century, presented to the public; the Plague Column; the former waterworks „Turkish Tower“ on the riverbank; the St. John Nepomuk chapel once a part of the church in the Dominican monastery grounds from the 13th century etc.
