Together. Everyone. Achieves. More
This is the team acronym so many of us student-athletes have memorized.
On behalf of the powerlifting team, I would like to demonstrate the ways this team has showcased this acronym in the 2018-2019 season
Together: Although an individual sport, each and every one of us feel as though we are collectively lifting each and every weight together. It didn’t matter if Nico lifted 300lbs or Landry did 130lb, we would scream words of encouragement and give each other high-fives and a lot of hugs when we would lift a personal record. It’s honestly a family: we have a bond that will never be broken
Everyone: The HCA family rallied around us and supported this new sport, despite not knowing too much about it. Y’all have encouraged and supported us in so many ways, that we want to thank you so very much. You all are a blessing to this team.
Achieve: Despite not having uniforms (new or old), funds, the proper equipment, or a crowd at every competition, and competing against public school that have funding, we achieve big time. We as a team, got an athletic scholarship to the best powerlifting program in the United States, broke 3 regional records that were set in 2011, won the State Championship, had a team member (Landry Leubert) medal at her first ever competition (applause), had every single teammate hit a personal record in each event, and almost doubled the size of our team. In testimonies from our lifters we also had personal growth on this team. Lifters felt as though powerlifting helped their anxiety, relieve stress, and was a great way to meet new people.
More: As we look on to the future of this team, all I see is greatness. We don’t have the nicest things, the nicest playing field, but nothing will stop us. This may be a young team (comprising of all lower classmen and one senior), but I promise you they are the hardest working team you’ll ever see. They know as a young team and program that they have a lot to prove, but they have done nothing but impress Coach Myers and I. I hope one day your hard work will be recognized and the sport will be respected just as the other sports. To Logan, Nico, Landry, Morgan, Mikal Ann, and Anneke, I am so proud of you and so incredibly blessed to be on your team. I can’t wait to see where God will take this program. Have fun in the sport and continue to use it as a platform to glorify God. Thank you guys and thank you to the HCA community for giving us a chance.
