Volunteering has been a corner stone of my life for many years. Of the
many organizations I have had the privilege to volunteer with, three
have made a lasting impact: Special Olympics, the Susan G. Coleman
Race for a Cure, and volunteering at a local physical therapy clinic,
Athletico. I have volunteered over 100 hours with Special Olympics,
coaching three sports and dozens of athletes. I was given the
opportunity to volunteer with the Susan G. Coleman walk through the
Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. During the event we provided gifts, food, and
encouragement for breast cancer survivors, but most importantly I was
able to connect with these survivors and recognize them as the heroes
they are. Lastly in my video, I had the gift to give back to an
organization who has given so much to me. I have struggled with
chronic back problems, due to scoliosis, for over five years, and
Athletico helped me to learn to cope with all of the physical strain
they gave me. Recently I had the chance to shadow a physical therapist
there and provide help to many patients. Volunteering has taught me
more about the world around me than I could ever imagine. It has
opened my mind, as well as my heart, and I hope to continue to do this
work for years to come by Pershing a career in the medical field.
