This painting was for Mark. Mark is a regular customer at the sports bar I work at and he has severe OCD that started when he was young and amplified when he was a firefighter and fell from a ladder while on a job, badly injuring his back and spinal cord. Mark struggles with day to day tasks such as reading words, drinking from a cup (this takes him a while to “release” his mouth from the cup), using utensils to eat and literally everything else. Mark is an inspiration to myself and the rest of the staff as even though he has the most impossible day, EVERY day, he will still find a way to say “I managed to try to do this today!” With enthusiasm. His disorder is crippling and he still finds a positive through all the negative. This little dog is his absolute pride and joy and everything he lives for. Mark used to be married and his ex now lives in Colorado (we are in Windsor ON) and she took the dog with her. Mark FaceTimes Ginger (this little terrier) almost daily and spends hours looking at this photo of her on his phone (that he can only look at on his screen saver that fades out after a few seconds as he can’t open his photos on his phone due to getting “stuck” on the words and numbers) I had the idea that if we could all pull together as a team, we could get Mark something that would mean more than anything to him and show him that he is truly loved and cared for. This is Mark receiving his gift. He is lost for words!
