Submission to CAA 2020 Conference MFA Screening. Using hand papermaking, I explore the ways in which we interact with the overlapping physical, social and cultural ecosystems surrounding our bodies. Research into anatomy, microbiology, and environmental science shapes my projects as they evolve into both written and visual elements. In Soiled, paper fiber, soil, water, and microscope slides are all shaped and explored together, visualizing the macro and micro links between hand and material. The trans-corporeal experience stands in for the ecology between my own body and material practice.
