"Ero stato catturato dalla Milizia fascita il 13 dicembre 1943" Primo Levi
The Italian writer and scientist Primo Levi was born 100 years ago in Turin, Italy. He spent his entire life there, except for the months he was imprisoned by the Nazis in a sub-camp of Auschwitz.
He was arrested on 13th December 1943 (on Friday it will be 76 years ago) and transported to Auschwitz in February 1944. He remained there until the camp was liberated on 27 January 1945.
If This Is a Man recounts his experiences in the camp.
To celebrate the 100 years of Primo Levi birth, the CAS students have prepared an Installation in Haileybury that you are invited to visit from today until 27 January 2020 when we will have another event in the Science Department (Primo Levi was a chemist).
The installation consists of some informative posters and poems in the Malthus Hut. Primo Levi was a very reserved person and I believe we found the ideal place to remember and reflect.
On the bench inside the quiet white little house there is a QRCode; students call it the memory bench and you can listen to a short documentary in English (5 minutes long) if you bring your phoine to scan the code or simply enjoy a few minutes of silence looking at the magnificent oak.
