“… I wanted to find a key to the timepiece of humanity, to become humanity's watchmaker, and to map out a basis
for predicting the future.” Velimir Khlebnikov
Velimir Khlebnikov claims to have a formula to calculate future events and prevent wars. After a traumatic accident in his youth, he used all his life force to calculate the future, to prevent death, pain and wars through mathematics. The tragedy of his fate is that he was never taken seriously as a mathematician, but instead as a poet and utopian. He died early, predicting his own death: “Men of my task die at 37.”
For this media art exhibition the artist Kristina Paustian and the department of Mathematics and Computer Science, Free University of Berlin came together to get behind the future calculation of the famous and controversial Russian Futurist Velimir Khlebnikov.
