Honoring Judge Barbara Richardson (ret.). Hawaii Women Lawyers is a non-profit organization that works to improve the lives & careers of women attorneys, influence the future of the legal profession, enhance the status of women & promote equal opportunities for all, through education, mentoring, lobbying & other initiatives.
Each year, HWL honors select individuals for their contributions to the profession, public service, personal achievements, & support of HWL’s mission. HWL proudly awards its 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award to Judge Barbara Richardson, retired Deputy Chief Judge, District Court of the First Circuit. As Deputy Chief Judge, she oversaw all district court judges & operations in the First Circuit. During her 16-years on the bench, Judge Richardson established the “Access to Justice Room” at Honolulu District Court, & helped implement the JIMS District Court Criminal project. Judge Richardson was named Jurist of the Year in 2012 & elected by her peers as President of the Hawaii State Trial Judge’s Association.
