Over the past 200 years, technology has enabled us to extend the average lifespan threefold. More recent developments in AI promise to extend the capacities of our minds as well as our bodies; providing us with ultimate pleasure, purpose and meaning. Futurists are now predicting that it could even be possible to escape our ultimate limitation - our own mortality - through uploading the human brain to a machine, becoming ‘post-human’.
In this film, we ask: can we really escape all of our limits - including our own mortality - through technology? Is technology the most reliable source of human flourishing?
To explore these questions, we speak with Noreen Herzfeld, Professor of Science and Religion at St. John University in Minnesota. Noreen holds degrees in computer science and mathematics and a PhD in theology, and is the author of numerous articles and journals in popular press, as well as several books, including The Limits of Perfection in Technology, Religion, and Science.
