This conversation was delivered in both Punjabi and English language through simultaneous interpretation, provided by Guntajdeep Singh.

This edition of Art Connects is a conversation convened by Simranpreet Anand with Harleen Kaur and Gabrielle Moser about Canadian Sikh identity and misidentification as it is seen in art.

Anand speaks to her works currently on view in the exhibition "Vancouver Special: Disorientations and Echo": "ਦਸਤਾਰ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਣ ਲਈ ਬਲੂਪ੍ਰਿੰਟ (Blueprints for Tying a Dastaar)" (2021). Kaur engages with Anand’s work as it relates to historical and contemporary issues in the North American Sikh diaspora. Moser will enlarge the discussion through the lens of photographic histories and cyanotype processes used in this work.

This conversation was introduced by Kulvinder Lehal from the Vancouver Art Gallery and delivered in both Punjabi and English language through simultaneous interpretation. Because the work and the discussion stemming from it draw from and relate back to Sikh- and Punjabi-speaking communities in the Canadian diaspora, it was deemed necessary to offer this programming in Punjabi.
