Worryman worries, so you don’t have to.

This is an art therapy project inspired by Guatemalan “worry dolls.” The legend: tell your worries to the worry doll, then place it under your pillow at night; while you sleep, the doll will take your worries away!

Worryman has three faces:

His yellow face is regal, what he chooses to show to the world when he wants everything to seem ok.

His purple face is covert, and is how he appears when he wants to hide in the crowd.

The turquoise face is my favorite; it is his true self, when he lets his guard down. When he wears this face he can fly.

Worryman is subtle and muted in appearance. His body is wrapped tightly in yarn, like a snug blanket. His design and color are inspired by one of his favorite eras in art history, the Sublime period, and one of his favorite artists specifically, Caspar David Friedrich. When he looks at paintings like “Monk by the Sea,” he feels calm and quiet and in awe of the universe around him. He feels peaceful, and in the present moment, when he remembers that he is a small part of something very big. This emotion is what fuels the stone around his neck, the source of his power. It is what allows him to take on all the worries of the world in stride.

Original music by Tyler Fields with the help of Grant Falkenburg in recording.
