Uyen's inspiration for “The Night” was a mixture of our current state (Covid-19 quarantine) and her personal taste of music, visual style. The initial idea came from her feeling, and maybe from almost everybody, which was lonely, nostalgic and reminiscent of the life before lockdown such as hanging out with friends, meeting people, dating, nightlife activities, …

At the beginning of this project, the song “NOISSY” by LYM was just released, whose music video was made by our RMIT Digital Media seniors, and Uyen was immediately inspired by the melody, also the cyberpunk concept, which was also her favourite visual style. Therefore, she made a motion graphic about a girl looking at the night city by the window and recalling moments when she could go outside, using simple futuristic, cyberpunk illustration style and an RnB background music.

Since the project lasted only two weeks, Uyen did struggle when using After Effects for the first time, especially trying to manipulate elements creatively in a composition. Her lecturer’s instructions and feedback had motivated and helped her so much to make the motion looks more consistent. Looking at her very first motion graphic, she was personally proud of herself when Uyen managed to create her favourite colour scheme and made the scenes matching to the music. It was a very cool project to her and she’d love to develop the work to a further stage soon.

Project Brief: In this assignment, students were tasked with creating a Motion Graphics work, developed from a unique narrative and original storyline of the student's own choosing.
