“Ine’s Song,” is Linda Laughton’s handbell setting of “Het Angelus Klept in de Verte” (The Angelus Chimes in the Distance) composed by Catharina Van Rennes (1858-1940). Van Rennes was a Dutch music teacher, singer and composer. The lyrics tell a sweet story about the Angelus chiming in the distance and a grandmother and her young grandchildren stopping to pray. The grandmother prays and the children repeat after her. Then the grandmother prays for God’s blessings on the children. The sun shines through the leaves as God smiles upon them. The handbell setting is called “Ine’s Song” named after Ine Noe, longtime supporter of music ministry at St. Paul’s Beaufort, who shared with Linda this Dutch piece from her childhood.
