‘Sanctus’ is a hybrid music film exploring two sisters’ exploits after aging out of the foster care system. The reflection of the piece sadly mirrors tragedy that affects more than 25,000 children each year in America. The nature of the story holds close to a layer of my own personal life experience.

The piece follows a non-linear logic in the vein of Tarkovsky and Malick films that blend together time, memories, and dreams. When we reflect on these elements (dreams & memories) very often do we playback images in a linear fashion. Rather, timelines in our mind often shape-shift and are fragmented moments. If films are empathy machines and can explore the deeper subconscious mind, it’s my will that ‘Sanctus’ thematically explores the psychological, surreal, and spiritual experiences of these characters.

In ‘Sanctus’ there are no absolute, but instead a condition of presence that strips away all noise to focus on the bare essentials of a cinematic canvas and perspective.

Thankful for the good friends that came along to make this project. Thankful for the new friends I got to meet. Above all, thankful for the opportunity to lean into a facet of battles foster children face in today’s world. May we never forget the poor in spirit.
