The act of creation takes on infinite forms. We asked Pew Fellows of various disciplines to create short videos that offer a window into their methods of making.

Composer Jacob Cooper creates expansive sonic palettes that evoke a sense of timelessness through the use of electronic, studio-recorded processes and experimental instrument and vocal techniques.

His compositions have been performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center, among others. He is an associate professor of music at West Chester University.

In this video, Cooper unveils his long-distance process for creating the collaborative musical project "Sunrise," with vocalist Steve Bradshaw.
Based on the 1918 ballad "Waiting for the Sunrise," the piece will be released by the record label Cold Blue Music in late summer/early fall 2021.

First published in July 2021.
