Music is an important part of Salvation Army ministry across the world, with moving melodies and powerful words being used to share the gospel message. To this end, in Nigeria last Sunday (27 January) Territorial Commander Colonel Victor Leslie commissioned two new groups – the Territorial Staff Band and Staff Songsters.
Drawing upon the country's Salvationist musicians, this is the first time that these nationwide groups have been formed there, and is part of the lead up to Nigeria's 2020 centenary celebrations.
Colonel Victor Leslie charged the Staff Band and Songsters to see their musical skill and their selection as a call for higher spiritual service unto God. Territorial President for Women’s Ministry Colonel Rose-Marie Leslie prayed for the newly commissioned musicians, asking the Lord to fill them with grace and to bless the territory through their music.
Speaking on behalf of the newly-commissioned Staff Band, Bandmaster Joseph Akpan declared that the group would give the Territory the best that is expected from them at all times especially during the upcoming centenary celebration.
