Discover the true history of Narbonne, a peaceful provincial city of southern France close to the Mediterranean Sea. The city harbours an extraordinary ancient past. In Roman times, Narbo-Martius was a majestic provincial capital known as Rome's eldest daughter.
During the Middle-Ages, Narbonne became the seat of an archbishop, so, a large prominent church city indeed. Then, there followed a long decline only interrupted by a short golden age brought about by a flourishing wine industry.
The XXth c. was marked in Narbonne by tragedy in 1907 and the coming to the world of France's "singing jester" Charles Trenet.
