Sound Terminus was invited by the Liang County Tourist Board to record the everyday cultural sounds of Litang County, Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. Colin Siyuan Chinnery went to Litang in July 2019, where he traveled throughout the region and recorded as much as he could in the time available. The sound recordings were then made available to the public at a small museum called the Litang Himalayas Sound Museum, as a substation of Sound Terminus. This project is ongoing.

We were lucky to catch a llamo, or Tibetan opera, performance near Litang. We hoped to record the performance, and connected my recorder to their PA and mixer, but the opera troupe unfortunately didn’t know how to use their equipment. The wireless mics had terrible connection, and PA system was mostly overloaded and badly distorted. They originally planned to perform under a giant tent, but strong winds destroyed it, so they performed out in the open. As a result, Chinnery asked one of their best singers, 洛绒彭措戏师, to sing a mixture of different singing styles for Sound Terminus. These have been edited together in this video, and is not meant to be an accurate record of llamo. Sound Terminus has complete recordings of this session.
