TEACHING SUGGESTIONS

This is a fun, humorous song which junior children will love singing. This song uses both their speaking and their singing voices so it is important that this is emphasised and they are encouraged to differentiate.

It is a relatively easy song to play on guitar and ukulele so it could be combined with a senior class who are learning either of these instruments or be accompanied by an adult who can play.

This song gives the children a chance to play with voice sounds and the teacher could warm up their voices by making a range of animal sounds that they can imitate. The elements of pitch and dynamics could be introduced by exploring high and low and loud and soft animal sounds.

In singing the song, introduce puppets for the children to use at the appropriate time and encourage children to make up other verses. Children may want to have a turn to act out the part of hen, frog and baby.

This song could be used as a warm-up to a singing session or during book week as the theme song. It would be a great re-energiser to sing when children are tired or restless.

Other songs by Rhada Wardrop in this collection are
- Hey Crocodile
- Two legged mice
