Welcome & Announcements
Call to Worship
One: Jesus says, “Come to me, everyone! When I play a joyful tune,
All: we will dance!
One: When I sing a lament,
All: we will weep.
One: When I chant for justice,
All: we will sing along !
Hymn “ Be Still My Soul ”
1 Be still, my soul: the Lord is on your side;
bear patiently the cross of grief or pain;
leave to your God to order and provide;
in ev'ry change he faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: your best, your heav'nly Friend
through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.
2 Be still, my soul: your God will undertake
to guide the future as he has the past.
Your hope, your confidence let nothing shake;
all now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still know
his voice who ruled them while he dwelt below.
3 Be still, my soul: when dearest friends depart,
and all is darkened in the vale of tears,
then shall you better know his love, his heart,
who comes to soothe your sorrow and your fears.
Be still, my soul: your Jesus can repay
from his own fullness all he takes away.
4 Be still, my soul: the hour is hast'ning on
when we shall be forever with the Lord,
when disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,
sorrow forgot, love's purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past,
all safe and blessed we shall meet at last.
Invocation (in unison)
Come to us, Holy One, and immerse us in the beauty of life with
you! Come to us, Holy One, and enliven our community with the
intensity of your love. Come to us, Holy One, and embolden our
community with the urgency of your justice. In the name of the
One who calls us to play and to work in community, Jesus, our
beloved, Amen
Confession (in unison)
We know that God’s commands are Spiritual, but yet, we falter. We
set out on the path of what’s righteous and good, but sometimes
our good intentions get sabotaged. We try everything we can to
be more like Christ, asking, “who can help us?”
Assurance of Pardon (in unison)
The answer, thank God, is that Jesus Christ can and does help us.
He acted to set things right in this life of contradictions where we
want to serve God, but are pulled by the influence of sin to do
something totally different. He calls us: Come to me, all you who
labor and are heavy burdened. I will share your yoke and make it
light; I will lead in the Way you desire to travel. Amen, amen,
amen!
