Inspired by the song Jobseeker by Sleaford Mods, I interpreted the theme of “Work” as the lack of work and the unhappy, lack of control cycle that unemployment brings. The character Will in the story represents the class of people that are unable to find work, causing a loss of hope and a leaning towards more illegitimate means of earning money, which is left up to the audience’s interpretation if Will is swayed to this offer or not. While the job seeker attempts to help him find an occupation, Will’s lack of hope due to him being beaten down by time itself stops blocks him from wanting work and instead dissociates completely from this repetitive cycle as it shows no sign of stopping.
