The Tides
Present in “IsLand Bar Yokohama Port Undersea” , on TPAM 2020

  It's great to join to"IsLand Bar (Yokohama) - Port Undersea" on TPAM 2020, the I will present my video performance " TheTide”. It’s presented in the CAVE, the important historical site for visual and performance art which running by Natsuki Ishigami and other artists. 

Conflating cocktailing and storytelling, in IsLand Bar, each Island Host serves his/her signature cocktail with a hybrid mix of taste, smell and textureI. My work is the memory of seaside exchanging, I will make four narrative with personal and historical memory according to audience's pulse taking.  

When the guest join my table, taste a my Chinese medicine cocktail (red jujube, longan, orang peel with red wine. It’s good to quit cold, enrich the quality of blood and sooth mind), meanwhile we talk about “what’s the impressive memory of seaside”. The guest draw down the memory or event they learn about seaside on the paper.

  After the drawing, I make the pulse taking for my guest. In Chinese medicine, doctor use pulse checking to consider patient’s condition, there are fore basic types of pulse: wiry, full(flooding), floating and deep, they reflect the quantity and quality of Qi (氣）and Blood (血）in our body, and we connect the image of tide with the four types of pulse.

 I write down his/ her pulse on the paper. There are four stories to represent these four types of pulse:  “Wiry” is about navigation, opening of the treaty Yokohama port (1859) and the event of Diamond Princess ship.
 “Full”is my travelogue of seaside from different countries during these seven years, almost been there in summer.
“Floating” is about my grandmother’s dream, the background is my hometown 東港, the fishing town at the south of Taiwan.
“Deep” is the story about Yokohama Mary, she is the urban legend with the postwar history of Japan and Yokohama.

  The process to recall or reveal the memories in the subconscious and body which bring the new experience with the transformation of inner energy to visual image.

島嶼酒吧(橫濱)--深海的港口

  這次受北藝中心和 orangcosong邀請，在TPAM(Tokyo Performance Art Marketing) 裡加入島嶼酒吧橫濱版本的共同創作藝術家。  

島嶼酒吧為2017年亞當計畫一群藝術家共同創作發想的點子，混合了調酒、行為表演，藉由五種感官體驗來經驗一種新型態敘事的演出。這次橫濱版是在當地伊勢佐木町的The CAVE 酒吧，這是一個二戰後留下的據點，現在為一群藝文工作者經營的展演空間與酒吧。  

我的桌子名稱為，以中醫脈相出發，交換關於海濱的記憶的作品，是一個一對一的演出。我的調酒以紅酒加紅棗、橙皮與龍眼，補血去寒安神（謝謝陳小曼的諮詢）。觀眾入座後，我會端上這個調酒（很適合二月的關東天氣），並簡單的閒聊。

  整個作品有兩個部分，第一個部份我會請觀眾劃下他印象深刻海邊的記憶。有人畫海邊出遊、遊艇旅行，有些是新聞事件、看到鯨魚擱淺，或是身邊親友在海邊發生的意外。我以提問，讓參與者顯現腦海中的影像細節。

  再分享他們的海邊的記憶後，接者是我的海邊的故事。我藉由參與者的脈相，來播放四個影像。這四個基本脈相：弦滿浮沉，與潮汐海水互相呼應。在中醫中，把脈為判斷患者身體內部能量分配與運行的診斷方式，在此我像是藉著它者的體內波動，轉化成可見影像。 弦脈是春天的脈，是一個開始，同時也有比較緊張、未知的感覺，這個故事是關於鑽石公主號與橫濱港開港的歷史，與航海史帶來物質和病毒的移動。
滿脈是夏天的脈，比較放，我呈現過去七年在旅遊海港與海邊的回憶。 浮脈是秋天，浮動和思念，這個故事是我的東港老家，一個台灣的漁港，和外婆的夢。 沉脈屬冬，沉而內收，像是深沈的記憶，它是關於橫濱瑪麗，一個在二戰至美軍駐守日本的Pan Pan Girl（提供美軍性服務），後來在橫濱街頭流浪的傳奇女子的故事。  

這個作品關於記憶的互換、圖像與能量轉換的過程。
