Another great chapter in the books! Possibly the greatest time yet in our adventures. Our lives are forever changed and always loved. God's timing is perfect!
As we were thinking of what song to pick for our farewell video, “Many Lands” by Land of Color was appropriate because we go to many lands and none of them are our “home.” If anything, San Clemente is more home than anything. But even this beautiful paradise is not “home.” When we maintain a kingdom-focused and gospel-centric attitude, this military life of constantly moving pill becomes a little easier to swallow.
“When I run on those streets of gold I will know this is where I belong.”
We are grieving. We have been fighting lately and attacking one another. Mostly me. Grief rears it’s ugly head in so many ways. It’s becuase of this truth...
“Pain that isn’t transformed is often transferred.”
I asked my kids what they’re going to miss most and it’s unanimous: friends and family. San Clemente was just icing on the cake. The beach was just our venue for fellowship. The Heritige Christian Fellowship Building is NOT the church, but it IS where the Church worshipped corporately.
For me the best part of this chapter was God’s timing. Every event, every deployment, every assignment and project was perfectly timed. I deployed 3x. To the border, to the middle east, then to the desert of 29 palms for 3 months. Then I buried my dad shortly after. I look back and the past two years was spent passing into my dad’s final phase of parenthood; namely, friendship. We became friends. All of that was God’s good and perfect timing.
That is not to say I have not missed out on many birthdays and special days, but it showed me that HIS timing is perfect even when I don’t see it.
And will God bring us back to San Clemente after the Germany chapter? Only HE knows… Until then we will bloom where we’re planted. We will build gospel-centered communities wherever we go and role model radical hospitality, ridicilous transparency and foolish vulnerability...in Jesus name.
