DNA Poetry: Poetic audiovisual portraits of the biological and esoteric identity of the human being

The artistic project DNA Poetry is rooted in an interdisciplinary approach, combining programming, biotechnology, sound and visual creation, and esotericism.

DNA Poetry is an artistic project that brings together both the development of an application whose algorithm and mappings make it possible to generate audio-visual materials from DNA data, as well as the hands-on composition of portraits, through the artistic, esoteric and human interpretation of this material by the artist, to create individual music videos.

But beyond the genome, we also find at the heart of these portraits a quest to represent the “total” identity of the individual, with a creative process including a ritual of energetic connection to the people whose portraits the artist is working on.

Working with the genome generates an objective view of the data, but in Barbara's personal experience, the individual cannot be reduced to a scientific and factual definition of his body. Considering this, it was therefore essential for her to propose, within this project, portraits which bring together all these considerations and which endeavors to question the reductive vision of the human, imposed by current society.

DNA Poetry is part of the Video Glitch Art movement and the VHS-Art aesthetic, while the sound refers to synthetic music, IDM, glitch, and even ambient.

Poésie de l'ADN: Portraits audiovisuels poétiques de l'identité biologique et ésotérique de l’être humain

Le projet artistique Poésie de l’ADN prend source dans une démarche interdisciplinaire, en associant la programmation, la biotechnologie, la création sonore et visuelle, l’ésotérisme ainsi que l’art participatif et performatif.

Poésie de l’ADN est un projet artistique qui réunit à la fois le développement d’une application dont l’algorithme et les paramétrages permettent de générer des matières audio-visuelles à partir de données ADN, ainsi que la composition de portraits, à travers l’interprétation artistique, ésotérique et humaine de cette matière, pour créer des vidéomusiques individuelles.

Mais au-delà du génome, on retrouve aussi au coeur de ces portraits une quête de représentation de l’identité « totale » de l’individu, avec un processus de création incluant un rituel de connexion énergétique aux personnes dont je fais les portraits.

Le travail avec le génome engendre une vision objective de la donnée, mais dans mon expérience personnelle l’individu ne peut pas être réduit à une définition scientifique et factuelle de son corps. Considérant cela, il était donc essentiel pour moi de proposer, au sein de ce projet, des portraits qui regroupent toutes ces considérations et qui s’attachent à questionner la vision réductrice de l’humain, imposée par la société actuelle.

Au niveau de mes influences visuelles, Poésie de l’ADN s’inscrit dans le mouvement Glitch Art et l’esthétique VHS-Art. Au niveau sonore, mon projet s’inscrit dans la musique de synthèse, l’IDM, le glitch, et même l’ambiant.
