FusionFest is the largest cultural festival in the state of Florida. FusionFest has traditionally been an outdoor festival filled with music, poetry, and dance from cultures around the world that call central Florida home. Due to the pandemic in 2020, a group of volunteers was asked to create a metaverse experience for guests who wanted to be a part of the festival but wished to stay away from crowds. The physical festival was much smaller with social distancing and masks required.
The Metaverse experience was called “Fusion Fest Virtual World”, built on the Topia io platform. Topia IO works like a very basic, massively multiplayer online video game. It allows over 100 guests to interact, explore, and chat as avatars.
Within Fusion Fest Virtual World, our project, “Borinquen”, celebrates the culture and heritage of Puerto Rico people living in our communities.
