The sound performance consists of a sound raid carried out by two “chioccolatori” (birdcallers). In Italy the latter are also referred to as fischiatori (whistlers) and are virtuosos in imitating birdsong, as well as being fine connoisseurs of all its varieties.
I am interested in all kinds of strategies and artefacts developed by man in order to falsify, mimic and reinvent natural acoustic events.The keywords for my project include: techniques of acoustic mimicry / exercises in zoomusicology / sound falsifications / bucolic divertissement / artificial and fake soundscapes / sound traps used by birdwatchers and hunters / unexplainable and astonishing human abilities.
The sound foray will involve two professional chioccolatori. At regular intervals, every 20/30 minutes, they will erupt into the gallery’s halls and, blending in with the exhibition’s visitors, produce a five-minute sound performance imitating the song of various feathered animals.
