"Wonderland by Night" by Bert Kaempfert & His Orchestra was #1 in the US on Billboard for three weeks starting on January 9, 1961. The film sequence I selected for this exquisitely beautiful instrumental is from the film Le Notti Bianche, directed by Luchino Visconti and starring Marcello Mastroianni and Maria Schell. Produced in 1957, the film was released in the United States on May 28, 1961 ... the same year "Wonderland By Night" became a major number one hit. The sequence is also wonderfully ironic in that it runs naturally in exactly the same time as the song does to the very second. I guess you could say these two were made for each other ... and that it has taken until 2015 to discover it. Perhaps we can have a winter as wondrous as this, as the last two have been absolutely horrible in my country. One can only hope.
