2020 Bali

I wanted to create a piece where I could fully express myself and share with others how powerful my experience in Bali was.

The intro starts with slow, smooth pans of the Jatiluh Rice Fields (UNESCO Historical Site) paired with my voice over to set the mood. I purposefully contrasted the smooth pans with the short and tight cuts of scooter riding (the sudden shift and contrast of visual & auditory interpretation is my style - I like to softly shock the viewer to promote more engagement with the video). Shout out to Big Wild for the jams (first song is “When I get there” and second song is “Invincible”). I consolidated the scooter clips in a few sections in the video to suggest that everywhere I went in Bali, I got around via scooter (which is mostly true).

This is the first video that I played around with the GoPro Max 360 camera. This camera allowed me to capture and edit some pretty trippy footage. The Tembling Natural Pool scenes required very little editing - the water shots were actually tunneled like that when I uploaded the media. I had no idea what to expect when I was filming those shots, but I am so stoked with how they turned out.

At the very end, I show hits of human connection that I experienced directly with the Balinese people, particularly with the woman I hugged at the end. This is foreshadowing to a follow up video I'm making about an extremely special experience with this woman making cookies with her at her house.
