A first development showing of Mess League at Crack Festival 2019 (3/Oct/19).
Mess League is an immersive theatrical sporting event; a chaotic intersection of sport and improv-comedy. The sport, "Mess League" divides players into two teams, a Mess Team and a Clean Team. The Mess Team aims to make us much mess in the designated area as possible, while the Clean team tries to keep the space clean.
Eight audience-participant players, an everyman referee/popcorn vendor/cheerleader, a live commentator, a crowd of fans and two super-coaches who aren't afraid to play dirty. Mess League explores the constant battle between chaos and order by reappropriating sporting culture, to generate both the tension and comradeship found in sport. It's very serious.
