The R33 isn't clamored about in the same way the R32 and R34 are. It's really a shame because the R33 is a wonderful car in its own right, and boasts the best performance of any current legal generation Skyline here in the USA. This 1994 is offered with only 78K verified miles and shows quite nicely in its classic Super Clear Red (AN0.) Featuring some light performance and styling modifications, the body is in good shape other than some small dings, scuffs, and chips associated with normal use. The Type M side skirts and rear spats are accented by an aggressive FRP front bumper. Prized for its 2.5L turbocharged six-cylinder, rear-wheel drive, and manual transmission, this sublime chassis is just as fun in the twisties as it is in a straight line.
The interior was a massive upgrade over the R32 from a build quality and material perspective. That's not to say this 26-year-old steed is perfect, as there is some light leather wear on the e-brake and shift boots, as well as some accelerated wear the driver's side seat bolster. Once again, some feel that its merely nitpicking on a quarter-century old ride, but it should be noted. The neatest interior piece was the chrome door sills, which we see rarely. The dash is in good shape and devoid of any major crack, or distortion. A Momo smaller diameter steering wheel replaces the factory one and has a much better feel in the hand. The door cards and headliner are in good nick, tightly held to their upholstered surfaces. The gray cloth matches the seats and is still soft to the touch. The OEM head unit has been replaced with a Carrozzeria unit. It powers the speakers fine but the display is no longer lit. Digital climate control is easy to use and functions, as it should and other power accessories, including one-touch windows, locks, and mirrors. OEM carpet mats are included for the front row as well.
The driveline utilized in this coupe is one of the finest ever engineered by Nissan. Compared to the engine it replaced, this RB25DET makes tons more low-end power and has a much higher ceiling from a modding standpoint. Benefiting from a fresh semi-synthetic oil and filter service the RB fires up with a turn of a key into a near vibration-free idle. Depress the throttle and the little red coupe scoots up to and above freeway speeds with ease. The manual tranny shifts as it should and is devoid of hitches or grinds. The power is sent out rearward, as it should be in any proper sports car, and a deeper thrum emits from the exhaust, as the factory muffler has been replaced by a polished Apex'i unit. An HKS EVC is also cockpit mounted if a few extra ponies are desired. The brakes do a nice job of slowing down the R33 from top-end speeds and the steering is properly weighted and communicative. The suspension has been refreshed with a new left rear HICAS arm and is reinforced by a Cusco rear strut tower brace in the trunk, and a similar one in the engine bay. Handling is crisp and the new rubber has been mounted and balanced at all four corners over the Enkei RS Evolution alloy wheels.
