Zomergasten is a renowned Dutch television programme broadcast each summer by public broadcaster VPRO. Each episode takes up an entire Sunday evening, lasting three hours. The episodes consist of an in-depth studio interview with a Dutchman, Belgian or other Dutch-speaking foreigner, interspersed with cinema or television footage selected by the guest, which is subsequently discussed. Previous guests include writers, scientists, television personalities, politicians or business people.

In 2019 the VPRO and Ruben van Leer commissioned Superposition to design a coherent motion graphic system and graphic identity.

The core concept of the design we made is a dynamic design tool that generates versatile fields and patterns of virtual cubes. The cubes impose a restriction and unity while at the same time being dynamic enough to allow for smooth transitions between different consecutive shots. We have developed the system in such a way that the color palettes are easy to adjust, allowing Ruben van Leer (Art Director) to create a unique character and sub-identity for every broadcast and individual guest.

The end result consists of a series of six title cards in different color combinations and six unique leader films at the start of the television program that announces and introduces the guests. During the actual live broadcast the designs were projected and mapped onto the studio stage.
