For an entire year, with friend and filmmaker Mathias André, I filmed the experience of five women in a writing workshop. In the time between the shooting and the editing, Mathias died. The film became a letter I had to write to him, not unlike the prompts that Marianne Jaeglé, the writer who ran the workshop, would give to Chantal, Marina, Cécile, Anne-Gaëlle, and Nicole. As we watch the writings of each of these women hesitatingly take form, we find ourselves probing the meaning of esthetic creation.
