When you find yourself on the bumpy road sometimes it’s right where you need to be to see just what you have inside of yourself to push through.

Some commentary that didn’t make it in the video❤️

“Dad, that road is all jacked up. Look at it. There are potholes everywhere. What if I roll my ankle before the tennis tournament? There goes my scholarship all those years of hard work out the door.” “Let's go.” I reluctantly get out and stand by the door and say to him, “Do you hear that?” I point towards the tall grassy field leading up to a large forest in the distance. “What are you talking about?” He says. “Yeah, the animal kingdom that’s screaming at me right now. You can’t hear the wild pheasants planning their aerial attacks? This is Michigan. Let’s not leave out the factor of the rabid squirrels that are planning ground assaults as well. They are 100% going after my Achilles' tendons... both of them… I mean if you’re good with a scene from the movie straight from “The Birds” going down right now, ok.. They are hovering." He laughs and motions me forward.

I start running. No headphones, just me and the uneven pavement. I can’t see my house but I visualize the road home all the while I pivot over potholes and tune out the wild animal sounds coming from the distance. They were not going to steer me off course. I was focused on my goal. I saw it. I visualized the finish line the last step in my accomplishment, the smooth pavement ahead.

Later in life, I look back at the last mile as a metaphor for my life. My dad knew I had it in me to finish the last mile even though I was exhausted and didn’t think I had more to give, but he believed in me and knew I did. I just didn’t believe in myself. There is always more mojo juice to squeeze out of you and I knew that I needed to push myself a little harder out of my comfort zone. That’s when greatness happens.

My dad always says to me, “Life will be filled with potholes and uneven pavement and some crazy birds trying to steer off course but how you adapt and pivot will determine how you show up in the world.”
#Nevergiveup. Someone is counting on you and that is your future self. Don't let them down.

#grateful
