STATEMENT

My interpretation of Bright stems from the emotion of wanderlust and the longing to be away, to escape the mundane. To escape the mundane is to escape darkness, the monotony of daily life in the city, and venture into the brightness of nature and exploration, that is an irregularity for most of us.
The concept is built around the emotional journey of wanting to escape, longing and search, that leads to the brightness of nature and being away.
The short film communicates the panic and claustrophobic atmosphere in the city by creating a sensory overload through narrowly spaced cuts. The film being without dialogue or actors and shot from my point of view, walking through the city and nature, I have tried to build a narrative by creating variation in pace and perspective.
Since the essence of the narrative lies in the contrast between the atmosphere in city and nature, I have used both extremes, fast and slow, to convey the opposites. To connect and lead from one to the other, I have captured the experience of escaping in a rather literal manner with shots walking or running down roads and paths.
With a set intention of creating a narrative that relies on the cinematography and editing, I found it most sensible to use the live sounds to capture the atmosphere of the places I shot in.
