Before Covid-19 tragedy struck the world, many of the nursing and midwifery workforces in Africa have been stretched to their elastic limit and was at the breaking point.

Since the outbreak of the tragic pandemic, a scary frontline battle has engulfed the past two years. With hundreds of colleagues across the African continent fighting in the line of fire, spending sleepless nights risking their lives at the front line 24/7, and putting the lives of their families in danger, enough has not been done to recognize and celebrate the behind-the-scene heroes dedicating their lives to saving the world.

What has it really felt like fighting at the battle front during epidemic and pandemics? What on earth does it feel like to keep holding tight and staying strong even with scary thoughts of death starring you in the face?

With the turmoil that accompanied the second and third waves of Covid-19, and the reality of having to live with the virus, when shall we begin to tell the 'behind-the-scene' heroic stories, narrate the agonizing and traumatizing experiences or highlight the exciting tales of inspirational sacrifices bring made by African Nurses and Midwives as the world battles to halt the global dilemma of the pandemic?

There couldn't be a more fitting period in history to relentlessly dedicate time, efforts and resources towards sharing the untold stories of our everyday heroes; acknowledging, recognizing, appreciating and celebrating the African nursing and midwifery workforce.

Starting from West Africa, to Eastern, Southern and Northern Africa; shining the spotlight on Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Liberia, Kenya, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe and a host of other African countries; and travelling through Europe, Americas, Asia, and the Oceania, the journey to capture the intriguing stories of African Nurses and Midwives (even beyond the Covid-19 tragedy) is gradually gathering dust.

From reminiscising on the tender care rendered at the bedside, the intrigues of the intensive care units, the life saving moments at the emergency units, the scary thoughts and feelings at isolation centres and advocacy missions in the communities, to focusing on the massive work and support from hundreds of social media foot soldiers, we are working hard to bring to live the tales of PASSION, SACRIFICE, RISK, TENACITY, BRAVERY and RESILLIENCE of African Nurses and Midwives!

This video thriller is not only a begining of an exciting journey, it is a CALL TO ACTION to all African Nurses and Midwives at home and in the diaspora as well as friends and colleagues around the world to offer unprecedented support as we share the compelling stories of EVERYDAY HEROES saving lives across the African continent.

Afterall, if Nurses and Midwives do not tell their own heroic stories, WHO WILL?
