What are you waiting for?
“High achievers spot rich opportunities swiftly, make big decisions quickly and move into action immediately. Follow these principles and you can make your dreams come true”. Robert Schuller
Immediately He made the disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He dismissed the crowds. (Matthew 14:22)
With a God-given task ahead of you, are you tempted to procrastinate or move? Jesus moved with immediacy. He didn’t wait. He had a lesson to teach. Immediately, He compelled with urgency (so says the Greek) His disciples to get into the boat and get moving. He did this while still dismissing the crowds. Jesus did not have the time or inclination to lollygag.
The word immediately appears 21 times in Matthew. It describes Jesus’ actions eight times and the actions of His disciples four times. Jesus was baptized and immediately came up out of the water. Some people choose to spend a few extra seconds under the waters of baptism. Sometimes the pastor demands it. But Jesus shot right back up. He had a God-given, Spirit-led mission to fulfill, and He would not be deterred. Jesus moved with Godly urgency.
Jesus expected the same disposition in His disciples. When Jesus called His first disciples, the four fishermen, immediately they left their livelihoods and followed Him. What about you?
When Jesus calls you to a God-given task, do you move with a Godly urgency? Or do you dawdle? Our reasons for procrastinating abound. I am afraid. I am tired. I am sinful. I am busy. I am ill-equipped. I am distracted. That may be. But the Lord expects greater from us, because He has placed greater in us. Despite our failures, He has not left us unequipped. He has given us His Holy Spirit. And with His Spirit, all things are possible.
The Spirit gives us power, provision, remembrance, transformation, and gifts. The Spirit produces in us His good character (the Fruit of the Spirit). We are not alone. Therefore, expect better things of yourself in the Lord. And move with Godly immediacy. His power and provision are with you as you keep on loving like the Serving King…
