"CANDLE" is an animated short film created collaboratively by the students of Frank Gresham's 2021-2022 Advanced Animation Workshop Class (Block D) at the School Of Visual Arts. Every fall semester in this course, its students are tasked with conceptualizing and creating their own short animated film as a collaboration involving the entire class, in a process designed to mirror an actual professional animated production. The students pitch their story ideas, then vote on their favorite, which will become the film script for this exercise. Pre-production, production, and post-production teams are assembled, comprised solely of the students from this class. While these teams handle certain specific responsibilities within the production chain, every student ultimately animates an equal amount of footage for the film. It's a lot of work to create an animated film in a single semester, but it's a valuable and gratifying exercise, especially considering animation is by nature a collaborative medium, and most professional animated productions utilize a similar production framework as this.
