For a world facing social and environmental crises, Ascent of Weavers is a call for awakening and action for collective healing of the earth. Entities of white, red, blue, and black embody cycles of the sun, the heavens, and the underworld and directions of human life in pre-Hispanic Zapotec civilization. The entities undertake a journey into Mictlan (Lyobaa in Zapotec)—the underworld of the Mixtec mythology—aided by Xolotl (a canine god), who leads them through the underworld’s nine levels. Here they are challenged by piercing winds and crushing mountains, finally crossing rivers of blood to emerge as goddesses of weaving (Tlazolteotl, or Nohuichana in Zapotec)—warriors leading us to a more just, equitable, and sustainable relationship with our planet.

En un mundo que enfrenta crisis sociales y ambientales, Ascenso de Tejedoras es una llamada a despertar y tomar acción en la sanación colectiva de la Tierra. Las entidades Blanco, Rojo, Azul y Negro, personifican los ciclos del Sol, los cielos y el inframundo así como las direcciones del mundo de los humanos, de acuerdo a la civilización prehispánica Zapoteca. Las entidades se introducen en un viaje al Mictlán (Lyobaa en Zapoteca)- el inframundo en la mitología Mixteca- con la ayuda de Xolotl (dios perro), quien las guía a través de los nueve niveles del inframundo. Aquí, ellas son desafíadas por vientos punzantes y montañas abrazadoras, pudiendo finalmente cruzar los ríos de sangre para emerger como las diosas del tejido (Tlazolteotl, Nohuichana en Zapoteca)- guerreras que nos guían a una relación más justa, equitativa y sustentable con nuestro planeta.
